The Great Startup Research Project
Founder VC's investment thesis is informed by deep research, predictive analytics, and functional learning.
The Method
Deep research, data analysis, and functional pilot programs identify the potential for outsized returns among the 99% of startup founders overlooked by traditional venture capital.
Founder VC's Great Startup Research Project completed a combined 12,000+ hours of deep dive interviews with 800 founders and investors to identify key pain points in the New Zealand startup ecosystem. Over a two-year period, 15 pilot programs demonstrated a strong link between fundraising readiness and valuation uplift.
With an expanding database of 600 founders and 200 investors, Founder VC uses data analysis to drive targeted investment decisions, consistently delivering measurable outcomes. These pilots, focused on functional learning, validate a data-driven approach that equips founders to scale effectively and secure capital.
This research not only informs Founder VC's investment thesis and verticals of interest, but also enables scalable, transparent vetting processes for both investors and founders. Increasingly sophisticated predictive analytics reduce the risks of startup investing while improving profitability, resulting in more reliable outcomes for investors.
The Findings
The Great Startup Research Project identifies five key gaps in the New Zealand startup funding and support landscape, three with significant uplift potential in a blue ocean landscape.
